Forward Kawhi Leonard, 34, has agreed on a new contract with the Toronto Raptors that secures his future with the franchise for at least two years. According to ESPN, citing Leonard's agent Harrison Gaines of SLASH Sports, the deal is worth $115 million over two years and includes a player option for the 2028-29 season.
Return to Toronto
Leonard officially rejoined the Toronto roster this September, after the Raptors sent Brandon Ingram, Grady Dick and several future draft picks to the Los Angeles Clippers in a trade. Although the two teams had agreed on the deal back in summer, its official completion was delayed due to an NBA investigation into possible salary cap rule violations connected to Leonard and the Clippers.
Strong previous season
In the previous NBA season, Leonard played 65 games, averaging 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Those numbers earned him seventh place in the league's Most Valuable Player voting.
A historic tie to the club
Leonard previously played for the Toronto franchise in the 2018-19 season, helping the club win the only NBA championship title in its history. He was also named Finals MVP that year.
