Lenovo Legion Go S handheld with SteamOS discounted to $999.99 at Best Buy
US electronics retailer Best Buy has cut the price of Lenovo's Legion Go S handheld gaming PC running SteamOS to $999.99. It offers a bigger screen and more memory than the Steam Deck OLED.

US electronics retailer Best Buy is selling Lenovo's Legion Go S handheld gaming PC with the SteamOS operating system at a discounted price of $999.99, according to technology site The Verge, which describes the device as a possible option for anyone choosing a handheld.
Comparison with the Steam Deck OLED
The Verge notes that Valve's Steam Deck OLED costs $789. The Legion Go S runs the same software but has a different design, with two-stage triggers and a larger eight-inch IPS screen. The display is 1080p and goes up to 120Hz, while the Steam Deck OLED is 800p and 90Hz.
The Lenovo model also has twice the RAM and storage, at 32GB and 1TB respectively, and a slightly faster Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.
Comparison with a newer rival
The Legion Go S is less powerful than the recently launched Asus ROG Xbox Ally X20, priced at $1,299.99, which has a Z2 Extreme chip and an OLED screen. The author nonetheless does not consider the Lenovo device weak.
Which configuration to pick
The Legion Go S originally launched with Windows 11 and the Ryzen Z2 Go chip. Although that chip is newer, it is less powerful than the Z1 Extreme in the discounted model. According to The Verge, SteamOS and the faster internals in this configuration should deliver a better experience.
The publication also points to a review by colleague Sean Hollister covering several Go S configurations, including benchmark comparisons.
