Lenovo Unveils Fanless Laptop Concept, Project AeroBlade

At IFA Berlin 2026, Lenovo showcased a laptop concept called Project AeroBlade that cools its processor using air pressure instead of fans. The device is remarkably thin and light and appears close to production-ready.

At the IFA Berlin 2026 consumer electronics show, Lenovo presented a laptop concept called Project AeroBlade, built around a new cooling technology developed by Frore Systems. Instead of traditional fans, heatsinks, and large vents, the system relies on air pressure to remove heat generated by the processor.

Lenovo is the first computer maker to publicly demonstrate a laptop using Frore's AirJet Mini cooling module. Branded as the Lenovo Active Flow Thermal Solution, the module draws in ambient air already inside the laptop and pushes it through tiny jets to generate roughly 2,000 pascals of back pressure, equivalent to airspeeds around 124 miles per hour. This high-velocity airflow is directed onto a copper base layer, disrupting the buildup of heat that normally causes processors to throttle. The AeroBlade concept's motherboard sample contained four such AirJet modules.

According to Frore, each module can generate up to ten times the back pressure of a conventional laptop fan while requiring far fewer vents. Lenovo says the solution consumes the same amount of power as a standard fan but is more resistant to dust and moisture. The technology is not exclusive to Lenovo, meaning other manufacturers could eventually adopt it as well.

Remarkably thin and light

Built with a magnesium-aluminum body, Project AeroBlade measures just 10 millimeters thick and weighs about 1.8 pounds, making it lighter than devices such as the Asus Zenbook A14 or the MacBook Air. The laptop features an OLED display and USB-C ports supporting Thunderbolt 4. The demo unit ran on an Intel Lunar Lake processor and supports up to 20 watts of thermal design power, suggesting it's built for moderate rather than extremely demanding workloads.

Lenovo has not disclosed details on battery life, pricing, or availability, but the polished state of the demo unit suggests the design could move toward production or influence future laptop models.

At the same event, Lenovo also showed a second concept, Project Swan, a laptop that expands horizontally from 14 to 17 inches at the push of a button. It weighs about 3.5 pounds and remains, for now, an experimental showcase rather than a near-term product.
