France's Léon Marchand claims first European title in 200m butterfly

French swimmer Léon Marchand secured victory in the 200-meter butterfly final on Saturday at the European Swimming Championships taking place in Paris. The Toulouse-born athlete completed the race in 1 minute and 51.72 seconds, the fastest time recorded anywhere in the world so far this year.

The result marked Marchand's first-ever title at a European Championships. His win was decisive, finishing comfortably ahead of the competition. Hungary's Richard Marton took second place with a time of 1 minute 54.06 seconds, while Greece's Apostolos Siskos rounded out the podium in third with 1 minute 54.13 seconds.

The victory comes two years after Marchand's standout performances at the Paris Olympics, which brought him widespread international recognition. This latest result suggests the swimmer has maintained top form even after his Olympic success.
