Leeds stay unbeaten with commanding home win over Newcastle

Leeds United secured a convincing 4:1 home win over Newcastle in the fourth round of the English Premier League, keeping their unbeaten run intact this season.

The hosts started brightly, and in the 10th minute a long-range effort from Ethan Ampadu deflected off teammate Dominic Calvert-Lewin inside the box, though the opener would come later. Newcastle were forced into an early change in the 19th minute, with Nico Gonzalez replaced by Sean Longstaff.

Just after the half-hour mark, Leeds took the lead when Ao Tanaka's shot from distance changed direction on its way in, with the goal recorded as an own goal by Lewis Miley. The hosts doubled their advantage soon after, capitalizing on a defensive error by Newcastle that led to a precise cross finished with a header by Calvert-Lewin — though the goal was officially credited to Jayden Bogle, as the ball also grazed his head on the way in.

Before the break, Calvert-Lewin got a goal of his own, beating his marker with individual skill inside the box. For the 29-year-old striker, it marked his eighth career goal against Newcastle — his most against any Premier League opponent.

In the second half, in the 59th minute, Leeds made it 4:0 when Noah Okafor converted following a throw-in and a scramble inside the box. Late in the match, in the 90th minute, Newcastle's consolation goal came from Bassouma Toure.

With the win, Leeds sit third in the table after four rounds, while Newcastle are in twelfth place.
