Leeds hope to secure long-term deal with manager Farke

Leeds United managing director Robbie Evans has said the club and manager Daniel Farke are "on the same page" as they work towards a new contract, with the German boss currently in the last year of his existing deal.

Farke led Leeds to a 14th-placed Premier League finish and an FA Cup semi-final last season, following the club's promotion the year before. This season, Leeds have collected five points from their opening three league fixtures.

Evans said discussions between Farke's team and the club have been ongoing for around three months and are progressing well. He noted that, unlike the circumstances around Farke's original appointment in 2023 or a rushed deadline-day arrangement, there is no urgent time pressure this time, giving both sides room to reach the right agreement. Evans reiterated the club's desire to keep Farke in charge for the long term, praising the job he has done so far.

Busy summer transfer window

Leeds made several significant additions over the summer, including England goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City in a deal reportedly worth up to £45m, defenders Tarik Muharemovic and Nico Elvedi, and Fulham winger Harry Wilson. On deadline day, the club also signed defender Melvin Bard from Nice and forward Jean-Matteo Bahoya from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Evans described the window as successful from start to finish, noting that key targets — a left-footed centre-back, a right winger and a goalkeeper — were secured early, allowing the club time to pursue further reinforcements afterwards.

On 30 June, Leeds sold Netherlands international Pascal Struijk to Brighton for a fee reported at around £20m, helping the club comply with profit and sustainability regulations ahead of their replacement by a new squad-cost ratio system. Evans said he was relieved that only one player needed to be sold to meet the requirements.
