Most Latvian residents rely on wages as their main income source
Central Statistical Bureau data show that in this year's second quarter, the majority of working-age residents in Latvia earned their main income from wages. A significant share also depend on pensions or support from relatives.
New figures from the Central Statistical Bureau show how residents of Latvia aged 15 to 74 obtained their main source of income during the second quarter of this year. The data confirm that paid employment remains the most common way people support themselves.
Wages remain the top source
According to the figures, 57.7%, or 784,500 people in this age group, reported wages as their main source of income. This underscores that employment continues to be the dominant means by which Latvians sustain their livelihoods.
Pensions and family support
The second most common income source was pensions of various kinds, cited by 319,600 people, or 23.5% of residents aged 15 to 74, as their main source of income in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, a notable share of the population relies on help from relatives. The data show that 269,700 people, representing 19.8% of this age group, received financial or other support from relatives, friends, or family members.
Together, these figures illustrate how different groups within society — the employed, pensioners, and those supported by relatives — contribute to the overall picture of how residents secure their livelihoods.
