Innovative growing

The owner of Latvia's largest sweet cherry orchard, Dzintars, greets visitors with a smile and invites them to pick cherries. Upon arrival, a surprise awaits – most trees are not grown in the open air but under a special roof. The orchard is covered with plastic sheeting equipped with a ventilation system.

This modern solution, including a self-ventilating cover, allows rainwater to drain while promoting air exchange under the cover. The result is a stable and high-quality harvest.

Necessity, not a whim

According to the farmer, such a system is not a whim but a necessity. Five years ago, when the harvest was very beautiful, the farmers were excited about picking and selling, but then something unexpected happened. Although the story is not finished, it is clear that the covering system is a response to such risks, helping to protect the fruit from adverse weather conditions.

The orchard demonstrates how modern technology can help Latvian farmers achieve a stable and high-quality yield.
