Britain sets European record to win mixed 4x100m relay in Birmingham

On the closing day of the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, the British team claimed gold in the mixed 4x100m relay, setting a new European record of 39.97 seconds. The winning quartet consisted of Jeremiah Azu, Dina Asher-Smith, Zharnel Hughes and Amy Hunt.

For Hunt, it was her fourth gold medal of the championships — she had previously won both the 100m and 200m individual events before adding the relay title.

Germany took silver with a time of 40.11 seconds, while Spain finished third at 40.42 seconds.

Latvia's representation

Latvia was represented by seven athletes competing in four disciplines. In the javelin throw, Anete Sietiņa, Patriks Gailums and Krišjānis Suntažs took part, while Valters Kreišs competed in the pole vault and Oskars Grava ran the 200m. In race walking, Latvia was represented by Raivo Saulgriezis in the marathon and Modra Liepiņa in the half marathon.

The best result for the Latvian team came from Patriks Gailums, who took third place in the javelin throw. Oskars Grava finished fifth in the 200m.

Latvia's delegation also included coaches Gints Palameiks, Mareks Ārents, Viktors Lācis, Ilmārs Saulgriezis, Andis Anškins and Modris Liepiņš, as well as physiotherapist Toms Zvonkovs.

The European Championships in Birmingham concluded on Sunday.
