UK funds 32 mobile shelters for Ukraine's gas facilities
The UK Foreign Office provided €2.64 million to buy and install 32 mobile shelters at Ukrainian gas infrastructure sites. The shelters, deployed across nine regions, are meant to protect workers during Russian attacks.
Ukraine's Ministry of Energy has announced that the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office provided €2.64 million in funding to purchase 32 mobile shelters for the country's gas infrastructure.
According to the ministry, one of the shelters can hold up to 100 people, 21 can accommodate up to 50 people, and the remaining 10 can hold up to 25 people each.
Delivered through a support fund
The shelters were delivered via the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine and fully installed at gas distribution facilities across nine Ukrainian regions: Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Volyn, Vinnytsia, Kyiv and Kirovohrad.
The funding covered both the materials and the installation work, meaning the gas facilities received shelters that are fully ready for immediate use.
Aim: protecting workers
The Energy Ministry said the shelters will protect gas workers during Russian attacks and air raids, allowing operational and emergency crews to stay close to critical facilities, respond faster to damage, and help maintain stable gas supplies.
Germany previously funded a batch of energy equipment for the Dnipropetrovsk region, while Lithuania has handed over more than 17 tonnes of energy equipment to Ukrainian regions.
