BAE Systems licenses Light Gun production in Ukraine

BAE Systems, a British defense company, has signed a license agreement with a strategic Ukrainian defense partner to produce Light Gun artillery systems in Ukraine. The deal was announced at the Farnborough International Airshow.

Under the agreement, a modification of the L119 light gun will be developed for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The specific Ukrainian enterprise involved has not been disclosed. The contract is based on BAE Systems' long-term support for Ukraine and cooperation with its industry.

The agreement provides access to technical information and support from BAE Systems needed to manufacture the first gun for testing. "Strong defense capability depends on reliable strategic industrial partnerships. This agreement combines BAE Systems' artillery expertise and our partner's knowledge of Ukraine's operational needs to support the development of sovereign defense capability where it is most needed," said Giles Ambrose, Director of Engineering, Technology and Strategy at BAE Systems Weapon Systems UK.

Recently, the UK signed contracts with several companies to develop its first ballistic missile in over half a century, aiming to support Ukraine and reduce Europe's dependence on US weapons. Former Prime Minister Keir Starmer also announced on July 16 €300 million in support for delivering 16 aircraft to help protect Ukrainian skies.
