Great Britain's men's gymnastics team won team gold at the European Championships in Zagreb, defending their title for the first time in the competition's history. The squad of Courtney Tulloch, Joe Fraser, Harry Hepworth, Jonas Rushworth and Sol Scott finished on 246.728 points.

The result came after a tight battle with World Gymnastics Group 2 (WG2), the designation used by Russian gymnasts, which was only decided on the final routine. Fraser, who took gold on high bar and bronze on parallel bars on Saturday, said the win reflected the team's consistency and determination to fight through every routine.

A rocky road to gold

Britain had finished only third in qualifying after making several errors, but rebounded in the final with strong performances on pommel horse, rings and vault, holding the lead at the halfway point. Mistakes on parallel bars and high bar then narrowed the margin over WG2 to less than a point heading into the last rotation.

It fell to Hepworth to seal the win, delivering another strong floor score a day after taking individual floor bronze. Fraser said the team held its nerve as the contest tightened toward the end.

By reaching the team final, Britain has already secured qualification for the World Championships in Rotterdam this October, which will double as the first Olympic qualifying event for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Earlier in the week, Britain's junior team also retained its European team title.
