In Latvia's Elvi men's floorball top league on September 18, Lielvārde/Unihoc secured a 2:1 away win over FBK Valmiera in a match marked by low scoring — for more than half the game, both teams failed to find the net.

Match progress

The first period ended scoreless, with both sides playing cautiously; the home team managed only four shots on goal throughout the match. The opening goal came only in the 34th minute, when Roberts Kalniņš won an aerial duel for the ball and set up Edvards Gustavs Rašmanis, who converted for his first goal in the Elvi league. However, the visitors' lead lasted less than two minutes, as a quick combination play from behind the goal let Markuss Strazdiņš-Stradiņš level the score at 1:1.

In the third period, FBK Valmiera spent four minutes down a man after penalties to Kārlis Viļums and Emīls Krūmiņš. The decisive goal came five minutes before the end of regulation: following a shot from distance by Rašmanis, Aleksis Saļkovs and Frīdrihs Feldmanis battled actively in front of the net until the ball deflected off a Valmiera defender's skate into the goal, putting Lielvārde/Unihoc ahead 2:1. Valmiera later had a power-play opportunity but failed to convert it, as well as a late six-on-five situation with the goalkeeper pulled.

Context

FBK Valmiera opened the season with a loss, having built a two-goal lead in the second period away against Kocēnu Rubeni but ultimately falling 6:7. Lielvārde/Unihoc, whose roster underwent the most changes in the league during the off-season, had lost their home opener 1:3 to FBK SĀC.
