Liepāja Calls Latvian Amateur Mixed Choirs to Apply for 2026 Song Day
On October 24, 2026, Liepāja will host the traditional Song Day “One for All – Each Their Own – Folksong,” with amateur mixed choirs invited to apply by September 18.

Liepāja is preparing to hold a Song Day titled “One for All – Each Their Own – Folksong” on October 24, 2026, gathering Latvian amateur mixed choirs. The event aims to promote Latvian folk songs, maintain choral singing traditions, ensure the continuity of the Song and Dance Festival tradition, and foster cooperation among choirs.
Choirs wishing to participate can apply until September 18, 2026. The application form and event regulations are available on the website of the Liepāja Folk Art and Culture Centre at www.liepajaskc.lv under “Regulations and Applications.” Completed forms must be sent to liena.davida@liepaja.lv.
Project manager Liena Dāvida stated that the celebration will start with physical activities – choristers will be invited to play the traditional Latvian game “Tautas bumba” (Folk Ball). Teams will be evaluated not only on agility but also on creativity, including visual presentation and fan activity. After the games, rehearsals and preparation for the evening program will follow.
Ilze Āboliņa, artistic director of the mixed choir “Kursa” and initiator of the tradition, invited participants to prepare three arrangements of Latvian folk songs. One of them may be an original composition using folk lyrics. The concert will conclude with a joint choir performance, singing “Sasala jūrīna,” “Krauklīt’s sēž ozolā,” and “Pūt, vējiņi!”
The final concert will take place on October 24 at 5:00 PM in the Great Hall of the Liepāja Latvian Society House.
