Two bicycle thieves arrested in Liepāja; police call on victims to come forward
State Police in Liepāja have arrested two men on suspicion of multiple bicycle thefts in June. Police are asking residents who have been affected but have not yet reported to come forward.

In June, the State Police received information about several bicycle thefts in Liepāja. On June 6, a bicycle was stolen from the fifth-floor stairwell of an apartment building on Dārza Street. At the same address, but one floor lower, another bicycle theft was discovered. Additionally, on Klaipēdas Street, a bicycle parked in the courtyard of an apartment building was stolen, and on Lielā Street, a bicycle was taken from a bike shed.
The police initiated criminal proceedings and on June 25 arrested one man on suspicion of theft. On June 27, a detention order was applied to him. On June 29, another man was arrested, and on July 1, police plan to request a detention order for him. Both men have previously been known to police for various criminal offenses and have been punished. Police continue to investigate their involvement in other bicycle thefts in Liepāja.
Police are urging residents who have experienced a bicycle theft but have not yet reported it to come forward. Authorities remind that stairwells and common areas of apartment buildings are not safe for storing bicycles. It is recommended to store bicycles in lockable rooms. Under the Criminal Law, the maximum penalty for such offenses is imprisonment for up to two years. Police emphasize that a person is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law.
