Drunk Driver, Gas Pistol Incident, and Speeding Motorcyclists Recorded in Kurzeme
Over the past day, police in Kurzeme region dealt with multiple incidents, including a man driving with 3.23‰ blood alcohol level, a confrontation involving a gas pistol, and two motorcyclists caught speeding excessively.
The State Police have reported several significant violations in the Kurzeme region over the past 24 hours. On July 20 at approximately 8:00 PM, an Audi was stopped on Zāļu Street in Liepāja, driven by a man with a blood alcohol level of 3.23‰. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against him.
Earlier that day at around 7:00 PM, police received a report of a conflict in a stairwell of a building on Uliha Street in Liepāja, where a man was brandishing a gas pistol and fired a shot. When officers arrived, the participants had left, but they were soon apprehended. One of the men, when stopped on Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street, lifted his sweater to reveal the pistol tucked into his waistband. Initial information indicates a quarrel among three individuals, during which one man drew a gas pistol and fired it toward the ground, while another tried to take it and struck him. Two administrative proceedings have been initiated for violations of gas weapon circulation rules, for firing without justified reason and for carrying the weapon in public without a safe holster. The investigation is ongoing.
Additionally, on July 18 at around 4:10 PM on highway P111 Ventspils-Leči-Grobiņa in Sakas parish, two motorcyclists were stopped for speeding at 107 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. One also overtook in a no-overtaking zone. Administrative proceedings have been initiated, and under the Road Traffic Law, the penalty for such speeding includes a fine of 240 to 320 euros and a driving ban of three months.
