Liepāja survey asks residents which items they'd rather borrow than buy
The association “Zaļā brīvība”, together with Liepājas RAS and ZAAO, is inviting residents to complete a survey about a planned “library of things,” where rarely used items could be borrowed instead of purchased.
A new initiative is taking shape in Liepāja: a so-called library of things, which would let residents temporarily borrow items they only need occasionally rather than buying and storing them at home. To find out which items would be most useful in this format, organizers are running a short survey.
The survey is being conducted by the association “Zaļā brīvība” together with Liepājas RAS and ZAAO. The questionnaire is available at ej.uz/lietubibliotēka.
What a library of things is
A library of things is a service that allows the same item to be used by many people as needed, instead of everyone buying and storing their own copy. Examples given include drills and other tools, tents, board games, sports equipment, hobby supplies, and kitchen appliances. Such a system can save both money and storage space at home, while helping items get used more fully and for longer.
What the survey aims to learn
The survey asks residents which specific items they would like to be able to borrow, what their usage habits and needs are regarding such items, and what would make a library of things easy and convenient to use. Organizers note that responses will be analyzed and published only in aggregated form, without identifying individual respondents.
The results will be used both to carry out further project activities and to develop and improve the library-of-things service so that it matches residents' actual needs.
