Liepāja opens new international-standard 3x3 basketball court

A new 3x3 basketball court has been officially opened in Rainis Park in Liepāja, built to international standards. The project aims to draw more young people into sports activities and foster a sporting spirit in the city.

Funding for the court came from both the Liepāja municipality and the Latvian Basketball Union, reflecting the shared commitment of local government and the national basketball body to developing sports infrastructure in the region.

Future plans

The new court is intended for more than daily training or youth leisure time — organizers plan to use it for international competitions as well. This could position Liepāja as a venue for high-level 3x3 basketball tournaments, drawing both local and foreign athletes and spectators.

3x3 basketball has grown increasingly popular in recent years as an Olympic discipline and an urban sport format that doesn't require extensive infrastructure but does demand quality courts to meet competition standards. The opening of this new court in Liepāja fits that trend, giving local youth the chance to train in conditions that match international standards.
