Liepāja to hold public meetings on civil protection in August
Liepāja's municipality will host four public meetings in August where residents can learn about civil protection, shelters and how to act in crisis situations.

The Civil Protection Department of Liepāja city municipality is organizing four meetings with residents this August aimed at improving public knowledge and preparedness for various threats and crisis situations.
Schedule of meetings
The meetings will take place as follows:
- August 18 at 18:00 — Liedags Secondary School;
- August 20 at 18:00 — J. Čakste Secondary School;
- August 25 at 18:00 — O. Kalpaks Secondary School;
- August 26 at 18:00 — Piemare Primary School.
What will be covered
Specialists from the Civil Protection Department will share up-to-date information on civil protection and potential threats, and explain how residents should act in various emergency situations. Attendees will learn about the current state of shelters in Liepāja and plans for their further development, as well as why it is important to timely prepare apartment building basements so they can be adapted for emergency use.
The discussions will also cover the so-called 72-hour emergency bag — why it is needed and what it should contain — and where residents can find municipal materials on civil protection.
During the meetings, participants will be able to ask questions and discuss other security-related topics of interest. The municipality notes that knowing how to act in a threat or crisis situation helps residents be better prepared and take care of both their own safety and that of their loved ones.
