Registration opens for “Liepāja Throwdown 2026” functional fitness competition
The “Liepāja Throwdown 2026” functional fitness event will take place at Liepāja Olympic Centre on November 21, introducing a new pairs category. Registration for athletes has already begun.

On November 21, Liepāja’s Olympic Centre at Brīvības iela 39 will host the “Liepāja Throwdown 2026” competition, testing strength, speed and endurance from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The event is organized by the sports club Power House Liepāja with support from the city of Liepāja.
New pairs category
One of this year’s main additions is a newly introduced pairs category, open to men’s pairs as well as mixed pairs of one woman and one man. Club leader Jānis Putra says pair competitions are gaining popularity in functional fitness generally, offering dynamic viewing for spectators while challenging athletes to split effort and work in sync at certain moments. Some of this year’s workouts have been specifically designed for pairs.
Beyond pairs, individual categories remain: for women, Rookie, Sport and Masters 35+ classes; for men, Rookie, Sport, Masters 35+ and Masters 40+ classes. As in previous years, there will be no preliminary qualification — all registered athletes compete together on the single event day.
Registration and workouts
Early registration runs from August 20 to October 1, with a fee of 55 euros for individual athletes and 110 euros for pairs. Organizers encourage early sign-up, since each category has a capped number of spots and registration closes once it is reached.
The competition includes three WODs plus a final WOD. The first two workouts will be announced ahead of the event, while the third and final workouts will only be revealed on competition day. This year’s venue will also feature a larger functional fitness rig, allowing more athletes to compete simultaneously.
Prizes
The traveling Strength Cup will go to the club whose athletes collectively earn the most top placements and points across all categories. The best athletes in every category will also receive prizes from sponsors and supporters, with a total prize fund of 3,000 euros this year. Registration and further details are available on the event’s and club’s websites and social media.
