Liepāja offers free garden waste drop-off through late October
From September 15 to October 30, residents of Liepāja and Grobiņa can drop off garden and park waste free of charge at sorted waste collection sites. The campaign is run by SIA "Liepājas RAS" together with the municipality and waste management companies.
SIA "Liepājas RAS", together with the Liepāja municipality and companies PS "Vides pakalpojumu grupa" and SIA "Eco Baltia vide", is running a campaign from September 15 to October 30 allowing residents to dispose of garden and park waste free of charge. The information was confirmed by Diāna Hartmane, the company's external communications specialist.
During the campaign, sorted waste collection sites in Liepāja and Grobiņa will accept, at no cost, grass, weeds, leaves, houseplants, as well as bush and tree branches — provided the branches are no more than 2 centimeters in diameter and 50 centimeters in length.
Conditions for drop-off
Residents are asked to follow several rules: waste must be unloaded at the spot indicated by site staff; any unsuitable materials found in the load must be removed and disposed of according to sorting requirements; and bags or other packaging used to transport the waste must either be taken back or thrown into the designated sorted-waste containers on site.
Locations and hours
Waste can be dropped off at three sites — Ulmales iela 2 and Ziemupes iela 44 in Liepāja, and "Ķīvītes" in Grobiņa parish, South Kurzeme municipality. Each site has different operating hours; the Ziemupes iela site is closed on Mondays, while the Grobiņa site operates daily from 8:00 to 19:00.
These sites also normally accept, free of charge, used electronics, batteries, paper, cardboard, plastic and other sortable materials. Residents are advised to check in advance which types of waste are accepted at a given site and to follow staff instructions.
