Liepāja's week of August 24–30: teacher conferences, sports festival and road works
The Liepāja municipality has released its weekly schedule for August 24–30, covering council leadership meetings, teacher training days, sports events and ongoing municipal road works.
The Liepāja city municipality has published its calendar of events for the week of August 24 to 30, combining administrative meetings, education events, sports competitions and infrastructure work.
Municipal affairs and meetings
On Monday, the "Marta Liepāja" centre will hold a seminar at the Amrita hotel for professionals working with victims of violence or people at risk. Council chairman Gunārs Ansiņš will open the "Digital Academy" Summer School at the Great Amber concert hall and will congratulate Liepāja resident Erna Emīlija Kļava on her 100th birthday. On Tuesday, Ansiņš will hold his regular public reception and meet with India's ambassador to Latvia, Namrata Satdeve Kumar. Several committee meetings — administrative, social affairs, housing and others — are scheduled throughout the week.
From August 24 to 26, Liepāja hosts teacher methodological days under the theme "Responsibility for today — the path to excellence," during which deputy chairman Jānis Džeriņš will congratulate the city's teachers. The manager of the Liepāja Special Economic Zone will take part in a port development working group meeting at the Ministry of Transport, and on Wednesday the SEZ administration will represent the city at the "Career Code 2026" event organized by Turība Business School.
Sports and leisure events
On Saturday, August 29, city leadership will open the "MAD Liepāja" active sports festival at Jūrmala Park, continuing Sunday at the skate park. The same evening, an "Ancient Fire Night" will take place on the beach near Roņu Street. From Thursday through Sunday, the final stage of the Baltic Cup and the Latvian windsurfing championship will be held at Karosta beach, while Friday brings a beach volleyball event, "Sand Boom," at the tennis hall courts.
Public works
The Liepāja Municipal Utility Department continues seasonal summer maintenance — street and pathway upkeep, lawn mowing and watering of flower beds. Several larger infrastructure projects continue, including resurfacing about 5.2 km of Brīvības Street, reconstruction of O. Kalpaka and Raiņa streets, construction of a new section of Debess Street, and gravel-road upgrades on Pulkveža Brieža and Tvaiku streets, expected to finish this autumn. Drivers are advised to watch for signage near construction sites.
