Liepāja to host 20th national session of the European Youth Parliament Latvia
From July 22 to 26, Liepāja will host the 20th national session of the European Youth Parliament Latvia, gathering 60 young people from Latvia, Ukraine, Finland and Lithuania.
The 20th national session of the European Youth Parliament Latvia, titled "On the Shores of Democracy", will take place in Liepāja from July 22 to 26. The event is organized by the youth association "European Youth Parliament Latvia" in cooperation with Liepāja City Municipality.
Over five days, participants will work in thematic committees based at Liepāja Raiņa Secondary School and Liepāja Youth House. They will discuss policy, security, climate, technology, health and democracy issues relevant to Europe and the Baltic Sea region. Topics include forest ecosystem sustainability, shipwreck impact on marine environment, disinformation challenges to democracy, EU institutions and lobbying, ethical aspects of alternative medicine, Baltic Sea critical underwater infrastructure security, as well as NATO, defence and foreign policy.
The central event will be the General Assembly on July 26 at the "Civita Nova 6" hall of the Great Amber concert hall. Young people will present resolutions developed in committees and engage in debates following a format similar to European Parliament procedures. The working language of the session is English.
The session will bring together 60 young people aged 16 to 22. Delegates will represent Latvia, Ukraine, Finland and Lithuania, while volunteers involved in organizing the event will come from Slovenia, Portugal, Poland, Spain, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Turkey and Greece.
The European Youth Parliament is one of the largest platforms for youth civic education and intercultural dialogue in Europe, operating since 1987 and annually gathering over ten thousand young people in more than 35 countries. In Latvia, the organization has been active since 2003, and this session marks its anniversary.
