Liepāja police identify minor suspected of phone robbery and theft
The State Police in Liepāja have identified a minor suspected of snatching a mobile phone from a boy and of robbing an elderly woman of hers. Criminal proceedings for robbery and theft have been opened.

Officers of the Investigation Department of the South Kurzeme precinct, part of the State Police's Kurzeme regional board, have identified the person who on 26 October snatched a mobile phone from a boy's hands in the Ezerkrasts neighbourhood of Liepāja, Latvia. The suspected offender is a minor with no previous convictions. The teenager has been given suspect status and a preventive measure that does not involve deprivation of liberty.
Theft in Ezerkrasts
The police received information on 27 October. The boy had crossed Vaiņodes Street and was walking along a path from a shop on Ganību Street towards an apartment building on Mirdzas Ķempes Street. An unknown person ran up, pulled an “Honor” phone from his hand and ran off.
Robbery in the city centre
The teenager admits guilt both for this theft and for a robbery in central Liepāja, on Lielā Street. There he approached an elderly woman and tried to pull a “Redmi” phone from her hands. She resisted and tried to hold on to it, but fell to the ground during the struggle. The person managed to wrest the phone away and run off.
Criminal proceedings
The State Police have opened criminal proceedings for the taking of another's movable property involving violence or the threat of violence (robbery) and for theft. Under the Criminal Law, the maximum penalty for robbery is up to five years' imprisonment. The investigation is continuing.
The State Police remind the public that no one is considered guilty until guilt of a criminal offence has been proven in the manner prescribed by law.
