Liepaja assesses damage to football pitch after Prāta Vētra concert; clubs left without home field
After Prāta Vētra's concert at Liepaja's Daugava stadium, the football pitch was severely damaged – deep truck tracks, trampled grass, torn turf, and a muddy hole where the goal should be. Two top-tier clubs, Liepāja and Grobiņa, are left without a home venue.
The Daugava stadium in Liepaja suffered significant damage to its football pitch following a weekend concert by the band Prāta Vētra. Deep tire tracks from trucks are visible across the field, much of the grass is trampled down to bare soil, and large sections of natural turf have been torn out. At the spot where the goalposts normally stand, there is now a large muddy pit.
Due to the damage, it is impossible to play on the pitch, leaving two Latvian Higher League clubs – FK Liepāja and FK Grobiņa – without their home field. Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and possibilities for restoration. An exact timeline for when the clubs can return to their stadium is not yet known.
