The international theatre festival "Teātris tuvplānā" (Theatre Close-Up), organized by Liepāja Theatre, is currently underway, with its second day now having taken place. Over the course of several days, the festival gives audiences the chance to experience theatre from a number of countries in the Baltic Sea region — Lithuania, Finland, Estonia and Sweden.

Encounters as the festival's true value

An observer who has followed the festival for several years notes that the longer one attends, the clearer it becomes that its greatest value lies not only in the opportunity to watch foreign theatre productions over a few days. Just as important a part of the festival are the encounters it creates — people from different countries and theatre backgrounds meeting in person, exchanging experience, and forming connections that are harder to build in everyday circumstances.

This dimension of meeting and exchange gives the festival a significance that goes beyond its artistic programme alone. It allows a dialogue to form between the theatre traditions of different countries and their representatives, and gives both audiences and professionals a chance to see their own work within a broader, international context.

Theatre Close-Up has become a gathering point for theatre artists from various Nordic and Baltic countries, offering audiences in Liepāja and other visitors a rare opportunity to see international productions all in one place.
