Several phone thefts reported in Liepāja, including from a seven-year-old child
Police in Liepāja have received reports of several phone thefts from different parts of the city. The victims include a woman and a seven-year-old boy whose phone was snatched from his hands.

Several mobile phone thefts have taken place in Liepāja, a city on Latvia's western coast. Police received reports of these offences from different parts of the city. Latvijas Avīze reported on 3 November, citing the TV3 programme "Degpunktā".
In one case a woman was robbed, and in another the victim was a seven-year-old child. In both cases the offender simply snatched the phone out of the victim's hands.
Boy had gone to buy a treat for his teacher
According to the boy's mother, who spoke to the programme, her son had gone to a shop near their home to buy a treat for his teacher. On the way back he was looking at his phone screen when a thief grabbed the device from his hands.
The child came home crying. The family immediately tried to call the stolen phone, but it had already been switched off.
Police have been informed about the incidents. The source does not say whether a suspect has been identified or detained, or whether the same person carried out both thefts. A fuller account of the events is available in the TV3 programme's video.
