Three International Artists to Create Murals Simultaneously in Liepāja
In July, Liepāja will see the simultaneous creation of three large-format murals by artists from France, Mexico, and Spain, adding to the city's street art collection.
Liepāja is set to become a unique street art destination this month, as three internationally recognized artists will simultaneously create large-format murals in the city. The artists, from France, Mexico, and Spain, will work on new pieces that will be added to Liepāja's existing street art route, which has become a popular cultural and tourist attraction.
French artist Aéro, who previously created the mural "The Old Man and the Sea" in Liepāja last year, will return to paint "Water Mystery" at the LOC Baseins&SPA. The artwork depicts water as a natural element symbolizing emotion, intuition, and purification, with a human figure holding a pearl representing mystery and wisdom.
Mexican multidisciplinary artist Guillermo S. Quintana, known as the chief curator of the traveling exhibition "The Art of Banksy: Without Limits," will create a mural at Kuģinieku iela 5A. His work features a universal human figure representing both locals and visitors, with a color palette inspired by Latvia's nature—forests, sea, dunes, and changing seasons.
Spanish artist Mandi Oh (Amanda Arrou-tea) will produce "Baltic Mermaid" at Roņu iela 7, continuing the Liepāja portrait series started in 2021. The mural explores the sea as a feminine, life-giving force, prompting reflection on humanity's relationship with the sea and the need to protect nature.
The public can observe the artists at work from July 22 to 31. The three new murals will further strengthen Liepāja's reputation as a leading public art city in the Baltics. The project is supported by the Liepāja Culture Department, Liepāja Olympic Centre, and other partners.
