Liepāja music and art school holds creative symposium at Pētertirgus market
The Liepāja Music, Art and Design Secondary School held its sixth annual creative symposium, this year at the Pētertirgus market, where students worked alongside professional artists. The event also marked the centenary of the Liepāja Art School.
On Wednesday, September 16, the Liepāja Music, Art and Design Secondary School (MIKC) held its sixth annual creative symposium, this time at the Pētertirgus market in Liepāja. The event, titled "ART.MUSIC.PĒTERTIRGUS," gave students the chance to draw creative inspiration directly from the everyday life of the market.
The symposium aims to let young artists see Liepāja from a fresh perspective, using the market's bustle, people, sounds and colors as a source of inspiration. This year's edition carried extra significance, coinciding with the centenary of the Liepāja Art School, allowing students to craft their own artistic narrative about the city while reflecting on the school's history.
Workshops with professionals
Throughout the day, students took part in art and music workshops alongside invited professional artists and educators, including Dace Jegorova-Strazdiņa, Egons Peršēvics, Ilze Egle, Sofija Bumbule, Linda Vilka, Toms Vītols, Agnese Kaupere, Artis Bute and Alise Bulevica, as well as musicians Kārlis Auziņš and Andris Buiķis. The collaborative work resulted in new visual artworks, which were displayed to market visitors by the end of the day.
Organizers noted that this year the creative process was not separated from city life but took place right in the midst of it, allowing passersby to see the familiar market in a different light. The event was supported by several Liepāja businesses, cultural institutions and municipal bodies, including the State Culture Capital Foundation and the Liepāja city municipality.
