Liepāja's wastewater treatment plants better protected from sea erosion

In the past five years, efforts have partially protected Liepāja's wastewater treatment plants, located right on the seashore, from coastal erosion. A breakwater built in the sea and a stone shore reinforcement have proven effective—the coastline is growing, and the impact of wind and waves has decreased. However, on the other side of these structures, erosion has intensified. The erosion also continues in the Karosta area, where the Northern forts are gradually collapsing into the sea. While the treatment plants are now safer, the broader coastal erosion problem remains unresolved.
