Liepāja school holds drill on responding to air threat alerts
Liepāja's Liedaga Secondary School is one of four Latvian educational institutions where students and staff practiced today how to respond to an air threat warning, including moving to shelter rooms after a simulated orange alert.
A practical drill was held today at Liepāja's Liedaga Secondary School to test the school's readiness to respond to an air threat. The school is one of four educational institutions in different regions of Latvia currently running in-depth exercises of this kind.
How the drill unfolded
The exercise began with a simulated orange-level alert signal, after which students and teachers moved to designated shelter rooms. Such a signal would, in a real situation, indicate an elevated threat level requiring residents to seek shelter.
During the drill, participants also acted out other scenarios that could occur under emergency conditions, giving both students and teachers a chance to practically reinforce their knowledge of correct behavior during such threats.
Purpose
The goal of these exercises is to ensure that school staff and pupils know how to act if a real air threat warning were issued, so that the response would be fast and organized. The fact that similar drills are taking place in several schools across different regions of Latvia points to a broader effort to raise emergency preparedness among residents, including children and young people.
