Liepāja hospital welcomes this year's 400th baby
On August 21, the Liepāja Regional Hospital's maternity ward welcomed its 400th baby of the year – a boy named Gints. Hospital management greeted the family with a commemorative token and gifts.
The maternity ward at Liepāja Regional Hospital welcomed this year's 400th baby on August 21. The boy, named Gints, was born at 5:47 a.m., weighing 3,190 grams and measuring 54 centimeters.
Gints is the third child of Liepāja residents Inese Sinkeviča-Ansone and Ints Ansons. At home he is awaited by two older siblings – 18-year-old brother Tonijs and 11-year-old sister Madara. A hospital medical team cared for the birth, including a midwife, an obstetrician-gynecologist, a pediatrician and a nurse's assistant.
Mother Inese expressed satisfaction with the care she received, praising both the responsiveness of the staff and the quality of the hospital's equipment. A member of the hospital's board greeted the family, presenting a commemorative token marking the baby's special status along with practical gifts.
An unexpected but welcome surprise
Gints's arrival came as a surprise to the family, though a happy one. Inese said all three of her children were born with large gaps between them – the first when she was around 20, the second around 30, and the third around 40. Each child and each stage of life, she said, has felt completely different.
The older children are especially looking forward to their little brother coming home, particularly Tonijs, who reportedly hoped for a brother even back when the family was expecting their second child. The father also plans to take time off work to spend the early days together with the family.
The hospital notes that all new mothers in its maternity ward are provided a single-occupancy room free of charge. Upon discharge, new parents also receive a small gift set with newborn essentials.
