Liepāja Theatre to present eight new productions in its 120th season

Liepāja Theatre has opened its 120th season, promising audiences eight new productions over the coming months. Valters Sīlis, board member for artistic affairs at the theatre, says the season ahead will be both intensive and rewarding for everyone involved.
Eight new productions
The season's lineup includes five premieres on the main stage, the theatre's annual Christmas concert, and three premieres in the smaller hall. The first of the new productions will be directed by Estonian director Renāte Kērde, while in early spring, in March, Lithuanian director Justas Tertelis will take the helm of another staging.
International collaboration
Sīlis notes that a wide circle of artists has joined the theatre this season to bring the new works to life. He compares the coming months to a marathon — one whose outcome is impossible to fully predict in advance, but which is certain to deliver a rich creative experience spanning several months.
Planning begins early
According to Sīlis, work on a season's repertoire actually begins during the previous season, once the theatre's leadership has a clear sense of what it wants to present to audiences next. This kind of long-term planning allows the theatre to secure both Latvian and foreign artists well in advance for its new productions.
