In picturesque Liepupe, documentarian Ivars Zviedris dreams of a film village but mostly wields a trimmer
Documentary filmmaker Ivars Zviedris and his wife, journalist Zane Mača, have lived for five years on a scenic property in Liepupe, Limbaži municipality, where Ivars envisioned creating a film village. In summer, though, he reaches for a grass trimmer far more often than a camera.
For the past five years, documentary filmmaker Ivars Zviedris and his wife, journalist Zane Mača, have run a household on a picturesque property on the shore near Liepupe, in Limbaži municipality. Settling into the location gave Ivars the idea of turning it into a kind of film village.
A cinema hall for documentaries
The property already has a small cinema hall, where audiences are shown some of the best Latvian documentary films. In that sense, part of Zviedris's vision has already become reality.
A trimmer instead of a camera
Still, during the summer months Ivars finds himself reaching for the camera far less often than he would like, since much of his time is taken up by mowing the grass with a trimmer. He doesn't see this as a burden, however — he describes the task as a kind of meditation that helps him unwind.
