Rain forces Talsi autocross round to be postponed to September 12

Due to bad weather and a badly waterlogged track, the fifth round of the Latvian autocross cup at the Talsi CVS track has been postponed from September 5 to September 12. The decision was made by organizers and backed by the LAF Standard Car Commission.

The fifth round of the Latvian autocross cup, originally scheduled for this Saturday, September 5, at the Talsi CVS track, has been postponed to the following Saturday, September 12. The reason is persistent rain over recent days, which has left the track surface heavily waterlogged.

Organizers say that after assessing the track's condition, they decided to postpone the event to avoid unnecessary risk to competitors' safety while also protecting the track itself. Race organizer Gatis Krastiņš explains that the original plan was to hold the event this Saturday, but weather conditions cannot be controlled. He expressed hope that the coming week will allow the surface to dry out so that a proper competition can take place on September 12.

The postponement decision has also been supported by the LAF Standard Car Commission. Its head, Kaspars Šimkus, stresses that under the current track conditions it would be difficult to ensure a fair and high-quality contest for all participants. In his view, competitor safety comes first, but fair sporting competition also matters, making it better to hold the event a week later under suitable conditions.

Format unchanged

The competition format itself remains as originally planned. Participants at the Talsi CVS track will cover a 1.8-kilometer distance over two laps, with drivers starting at intervals, allowing each competitor to aim for their best time independently of others.

Organizers are asking participants to note the new date and hope that weather conditions on September 12 will be more favorable, allowing a full round of the Latvian autocross cup to take place at the Talsi CVS track.
