Lithuania to urge EU to ban Russian grain transit and sanction agricultural oligarchs
Lithuania will propose that the European Union ban the transit of Russian grain through the bloc. Vilnius also wants sanctions on several oligarchs from Russia's agricultural sector.

Lithuania intends to put forward a proposal in the European Union to prohibit the transit of Russian grain through the bloc. Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugs Sinkevičs announced this on Thursday.
The second part of the proposal concerns sanctions. Vilnius wants the EU to impose restrictions on several oligarchs from Russia's agricultural sector.
The source does not say which businesspeople could end up on a sanctions list, nor when the initiative will be formally submitted. It is also not known how other EU member states will respond to the Lithuanian proposal.
Because the measures are so far only proposed, adopting them would require coordinated decision-making at EU level.
