Lithuanian authorities have launched an investigation following an incident at a mosque in Kaunas, where a group of bikers attempted to disrupt a local Muslim community's prayer gathering. The incident was reported by broadcaster LRT, as cited by the outlet "Jevropejska Pravda".

On Friday, a group of bikers gathered around the mosque, chanting "Lithuania" and loudly playing music in an apparent attempt to interrupt the Muslim community's service. A local news portal reported that a pig's head was also left near the mosque during the incident.

The situation did not escalate further, as police were already stationed near the mosque at the time. Law enforcement has since opened administrative proceedings in connection with the provocation.

Similar incidents elsewhere in Europe

The report notes that such provocations against Muslim places of worship are not isolated to Lithuania. In May, unknown individuals doused a mosque in Bavaria, Germany, with blood and left a pig's head at the site. Last year, suspects were detained in Serbia over the placing of pig heads near mosques in Paris.

No further details have been released regarding possible suspects or the progress of the investigation in Kaunas.
