The Lithuanian government has approved a decision to establish a so-called anti-mobility defense zone along the country's border with Russia's Kaliningrad exclave and with Belarus. The decision follows a proposal put forward by the Defense Ministry.

The purpose of the anti-mobility zone is to hinder the potential advance of an adversary's armed forces or military equipment into Lithuanian territory, using various engineering obstacles, including defensive trenches.

With this decision, Lithuania continues to reinforce its borders with the two neighboring states, which are regarded as sources of security risk in the region due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the close military cooperation between Russia and Belarus.
