Lithuania launches military exercises in 12 municipalities in the southeast
From September 14 to 18, Lithuania is holding military exercises in 12 municipalities in the country's southeast, including near Vilnius, training responses to various military threats. No simulated live-fire shooting is planned.
Lithuania began new military exercises on Monday, September 14, which will run through Friday this week. The news was reported by broadcaster LRT, as cited by the outlet "Ukrainska Pravda".
The exercises are taking place across 12 municipalities in the southeastern part of the country, including areas near the capital, Vilnius. During the drills, soldiers will practice responding to various types of military threats.
What the exercises involve
The maneuvers will involve the use of drones, boats and various weapons systems. However, no shooting with simulated ammunition is planned during the exercises.
Army representatives warned that soldiers will train during both daylight and nighttime hours and may move along roads using either military vehicles or civilian cars.
Context
In August, the air forces of the Baltic states already held exercises focused on survival at sea. Separately, Poland's foreign minister recently called on NATO to intensify exercises near Russia's Kaliningrad region.
