Lithuania in a State of Anxious Anticipation Ahead of Possible Russian Attacks
Lithuania has been conducting military exercises near strategic sites, while officials warn of potential Russian operations targeting NATO member states. The question is no longer if attacks will happen, but when.

Lithuania has been experiencing heightened tension in recent weeks, as officials increasingly warn of possible Russian attacks that could extend beyond Ukraine to NATO member states. According to statements from Lithuanian authorities, the question is no longer whether such attacks will occur, but when, what form they will take, and how to prepare for them.
Last week, an unusual level of military activity was observed in Klaipėda and the Curonian Spit, including soldiers, military vehicles, warships, and helicopters. While this might have initially appeared to be a response to an actual attack, it was in fact planned exercises by the Lithuanian armed forces and other services.
The drills aimed to improve rapid response capabilities, practice the protection of key infrastructure, and enhance coordination with civilian institutions. However, this preparation is not merely a test of skills—against the backdrop of frequent warnings about possible Russian kinetic operations, it also serves as a show of force and a deterrent signal to potential adversaries.
Lithuanian officials stress that such measures are necessary to strengthen national defense and be ready for any scenario. Meanwhile, the public remains in a state of anxious anticipation, with many describing the atmosphere as the calm before the storm.
