Lithuanian Defense Ministry: No signs of large-scale Russian attack on Baltics, but high risk of sabotage
Lithuania's Defense Ministry has rejected concerns about Russia preparing a large-scale military attack on the Baltic states, but warns of high sabotage risks.

Lithuania's Defense Ministry stated that there are currently no indications that Russia is preparing a large-scale military attack on the Baltic states. However, the ministry emphasized that the threat of sabotage and diversionary actions, including attacks on critical infrastructure, remains very high in Lithuania.
The comment came in response to a report by the British newspaper 'The Guardian', which cited sources claiming that Russia is preparing possible provocations against the Baltic states or Poland. The Lithuanian ministry noted that such reports could be aimed at escalating the situation in the region.
Furthermore, officials stressed that this rhetoric is an attempt to divert attention from Russia's failures on the front in Ukraine and to influence the determination of Ukraine's allies to continue military support. Recently, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski also stated that Russia could organize a 'false flag' operation to justify an attack on a NATO member state.
Latvian intelligence has previously warned that Russia is preparing potential provocations against the Baltic states or Poland, including drone attacks and other hybrid actions, to force NATO countries to stop supporting Ukraine. Meanwhile, the head of Poland's intelligence agency, Paweł Szota, suggested that Russia might use 'little green men' for provocations in the Baltics to test NATO's response.
