Lithuania's Foreign Minister: Putin's talk of peace isn't worth half a kopeck
Following Russian strikes on Odesa and the wider Odesa region, Lithuania's Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said Putin's claims of wanting to end the war through talks are worthless. He called for more weapons for Ukraine and tougher sanctions on Russia.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys responded on X to Russia's latest strikes on Ukraine, including on Odesa and the Odesa region, urging that Russian President Vladimir Putin's statements should never be trusted.
According to Budrys, Putin's claim that Russia wants to end the war through negotiations isn't worth even half a kopeck. The minister stressed that while Putin does everything he can to deceive the world in yet another attempt to avoid further sanctions against the Kremlin's war machine and economy, Russian missiles and drones continue to kill innocent Ukrainian civilians.
The only language Putin understands
Budrys said the only language Putin truly understands is the language of strength — meaning more weapons for Ukraine and broader sanctions against Russia and its accomplices.
The minister said Ukraine is going through an extremely difficult period, but that the country is not, and will never be, alone. He emphasized that Lithuania and other international partners will keep supporting Ukraine for as long as it takes to defeat the aggressor.
Budrys's remarks came after US President Donald Trump said this week that he had a "great" conversation earlier in the week with Russian leader Putin, and that the Russian leader wants to reach a deal to end the war in Ukraine.
