Lithuanian cadets fall to France in Euro semifinal, will play for bronze

France proved too strong for Lithuania in the semifinal of the European Cadet Championship, winning 92-82. The defeat means Lithuania will play for third place on the final day of the tournament. France, meanwhile, earned a spot in the final, where they will face the winner of the other semifinal between Spain and Latvia.

The top scorer for the winning side was Liam Elek, who recorded 25 points and eight assists. However, France’s most eye-catching performer was Mesjē-Getans Ivani, a 205cm forward who delivered 21 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Liam Kabeja also made a big impact on defense, coming up with six steals.

For Lithuania, the leading scorer was Danelius Jasikevičius, the godson of legendary Šarūnas Jasikevičius. He had 21 points and nine assists, but also turned the ball over seven times. France dominated in steals, 18-8, and also won the inside battle 38-32.

Lithuania were in front only briefly during the first half, taking a three-point lead midway through the second quarter. France’s largest advantage was 13 points. Lithuania gradually cut the deficit and, with a two-point basket from Raigards Cjuņš, took a 68-67 lead in the final minute. On the next possession, Taigs Drijū put France back in front. In the fourth quarter, France held on to secure the victory.
