German Chancellor Friedrich Merz convened a "B3+1" meeting in Berlin today, bringing together the leaders of the three Baltic states. During the meeting, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda indicated that Lithuania seeks to join the Western nuclear deterrence system against Russia and may therefore revoke the current prohibition on deploying nuclear weapons on its territory. Such a move would mark a significant shift in Lithuania's security policy and could bolster NATO's eastern flank. President Nausėda did not specify a timeline or conditions for the potential decision. The leaders of Latvia and Estonia also attended the meeting, but their stance on the issue was not disclosed. The German chancellor's initiative to gather Baltic leaders underscores the growing focus on regional security.
