Salmonella-contaminated chicken sold at Maxima stores in Lithuania
Lithuania's State Food and Veterinary Service has found salmonella bacteria in domestically produced chicken meat sold at Maxima supermarkets. Customers are urged not to eat the product and to return it to any store in the chain.
Lithuania's State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) has reported detecting the pathogenic microorganism Salmonella spp. in fresh, boneless and skinless broiler chicken thigh meat produced in Lithuania and sold at Maxima supermarkets.
The affected meat carries a best-before date of August 6. Information about the unsafe product was published in the VMVT system on August 7, according to the LRT.lt news portal.
Call to customers
Maxima is urging customers who still have this meat at home not to consume it and to return it to any store in the chain. If the meat has been frozen, customers are also advised to check their freezers for it.
The full cost of any returned product will be refunded. To receive a refund, customers must present a receipt or another document confirming the purchase.
