Līgatne's creative quarter Zeit is set to welcome the Rakstivāls writing festival on 9 August. Organised for the third time, the one-day event will turn the town into a meeting point for writers, readers and thinkers. The goal is to show how diverse and ever-present writing is in daily life, not just among published novelists.

Writer Inga Žolude, one of the festival's organisers, says that people from all walks of life write on a daily basis, even if they do not always realise it. Anyone who believes they do not write should think again, she adds.

The main stage will feature short TEDx-style talks throughout the day. Journalist Inga Spriņģe will discuss the role of writing in documentary storytelling. Meteorologist Toms Bricis will explore the connection between weather reports and writing. Iveta Ruskule, director of the Latvian National Museum of Writing and Music, will reflect on the relationship between writing and national identity.

According to Žolude, these will not be traditional lectures. Some talks may prompt serious reflection, while others will require listeners to stand up or otherwise take part in the conversation. The festival also offers a wide range of writing workshops designed for both beginners and professionals. All activities are free of charge.
