Lionsgate and Laika unveil new trailers for upcoming films
Lionsgate has released a new trailer for "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" introducing Katniss's parents, while Laika Studios dropped the final trailer for its stop-motion film "Wildwood."
New footage reveals Katniss's family roots
Lionsgate has put out a new trailer for "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping," giving audiences their first look at two new characters — Asterid March (Grace Ackary), Maysilee's best friend and Katniss's future mother, and Burdock Everdeen (Scot Greenan), Katniss's future father. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are also set to return in their original roles as Katniss and Peeta, most likely in a brief flash-forward moment bridging the new story with the original film. The scene appears designed to let viewers connect the prequel to the events they already know. The film hits theaters on November 20.
Laika closes out its Wildwood campaign
Meanwhile, Laika Studios has released the final trailer for its upcoming stop-motion animated feature "Wildwood." An extended teaser posted in May racked up more than 90 million views, and a full trailer set to a cover of Avicii's "Wake Me Up" followed last month. The story follows twelve-year-old Prue McKee, who loses her baby brother Mac to a flock of crows during a walk and, while searching for him, discovers a magical realm called the Wilderness. Her schoolmate Curtis Mehlberg follows her in, and together they encounter a woman named Alexandra who has lost her own son, along with coyotes and bandits along the way. The voice cast includes Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, and Carey Mulligan, alongside Angela Bassett, Mahershala Ali, and Awkwafina. "Wildwood" opens in theaters on October 23.
