LIV Golf secures unnamed lead investor for 2027
LIV Golf has secured an unnamed lead investor and will reduce its tournament schedule to 10 events from next season. The league faces uncertainty after cancellations and increased competition.

LIV Golf, founded in 2021 and launched in 2022, has secured an unnamed lead investor with support set to begin in 2027. The league announced that from next season, it will cut its calendar to ten events, with five taking place in the United States and five in other countries.
This decision comes after the 2026 season originally planned for 14 tournaments, but in April LIV Golf postponed the New Orleans event scheduled for June, citing questions about its future. No new date has been announced.
An LIV Golf official, O'Neil, said the league is focused on "delivering a great week for fans and players at Bedminster" in New York, starting Sunday, and "finishing the 2026 season strong." However, he made no direct mention of the two remaining events this season: Indianapolis on 23 August and the closing team championship in Michigan on 30 August.
Several major champions, including Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Cameron Smith, Martin Kaymer, and Sergio Garcia, remain on the LIV roster after leaving the PGA Tour. However, some players have returned to the PGA Tour, with American major winners Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed rejoining after the tour introduced a returning member programme.
In July, the PGA Tour and DP World Tour struck an alliance with the Asian Tour, seen as another setback for LIV Golf. O'Neil also noted that more than a dozen additional parties have expressed strong interest in becoming minority investors, creating a multi-partner model aimed at long-term stability and growth.
LIV Golf originally used 54-hole tournaments, with its name derived from the Roman numeral for 54. However, this season the league switched to the traditional 72-hole format.
