Liverpool come from behind to beat Atletico as Torres hat-trick fuels PSG rout
In the Champions League's first round, Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid 2:1 at home, while Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Slovan Bratislava 6:1 with a Ferran Torres hat-trick.
English champions Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid 2:1 in their opening Champions League fixture, securing their first win in five meetings against a Diego Simeone-coached side.
The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute through Marcos Llorente, who finished after a pass from Julian Alvarez. Liverpool equalised just before halftime when Dominik Szoboszlai battled into the box, combined with Ronald Araujo, and beat goalkeeper Jan Oblak. Early in the second half, Liverpool wasted a promising fast-break chance through Bradley Barcola, but moments later Alexis Mac Allister made no mistake, curling in a precise strike from the edge of the box to put the hosts ahead. Barcola, signed for a large fee, later had to leave the pitch through injury without significant contact. Liverpool are managed by Andoni Iraola.
Torres hat-trick powers PSG
Paris Saint-Germain crushed Slovan Bratislava 6:1 at home. Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring by converting a rebound after Dominik Takac's shot hit the post, then doubled the lead minutes later. Ferran Torres scored his first goal in the 31st minute, added another right after the break, and completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute. Slovan's consolation goal came from Suleiman Kamara, while Fabian Ruiz added a further goal late in the match.
Elsewhere, Sporting Lisbon beat Galatasaray 3:1 at home, and Arsenal edged past Napoli 1:0 thanks to a late goal from Martin Odegaard.
