Liverpool complete signing of teenage goalkeeper Brughmans in deal worth up to £30m
Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign 18-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk, potentially worth up to £30m with add-ons. He will stay on loan at Genk this season before joining Liverpool ahead of the 2027-28 campaign.
Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk, in a deal that could be worth up to £30m including add-ons.
Brughmans has signed a six-year contract with Liverpool but will spend the current season on loan back at Genk. He is set to move to Anfield ahead of the 2027-28 season.
A promising young talent
Standing at 6ft 7in, the goalkeeper has already started all four of Genk's matches so far this season and has represented Belgium at youth international level. According to information available to BBC Sport, the deal includes an initial fee plus add-on payments, with the roughly £30m figure representing the top end of what could ultimately be paid.
Liverpool's current goalkeeping options include Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman and Vitezslav Jaros. With Alisson's contract due to expire next summer and Mamardashvili's long-term future at the club uncertain, Brughmans could become a genuine option from the summer of 2027 onwards.
Global talent scouting pays off
The signing is the result of work by Liverpool's global talent department, headed by Matt Newberry. Earlier this year the same department secured Senegalese defender Mor Talla N'diaye and Austrian defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe, both of whom impressed at the U17 World Cup in Qatar. Over the past year, Liverpool have also brought in goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Hungary and midfielder Samuel Martinez from Colombia. Pecsi is currently on loan at German side TSV Hartberg this season.
